"Life is a Highway" - June 3rd

Today was the start of a VERY LONG-G-G-G trip.  I was still sleepy when we started. Since I already know what Havasu looks like, I decided to sleep until we got on I-40.  Daddy drove 597 miles today to Albuquerque, NM.

On I-40 at the Yucca Exit.  According to the website, http://www.agilitynut.com/modarch/azdome.html,  "The Dinesphere, aka the Golf Ball House, is a 40' diameter geodesic ball. It was built in 1976 as the Dinesphere nightclub/restaurant for a land development project."   After the company went bankrupt, a couple bought it and made it their home. Several years ago, our local newspaper had a very interesting article about it. Because of its design, it
maintains a constant temperature and needs neither heat or a/c.

We're getting our kicks on Route 66 starting in Kingman.
Taking a short detour.

This is our detour. Peach Springs is nestled between Kingman and Seligman, AZ.
Many of you will better recognize Peach Springs by its Disney/Pixar name, "Radiator Springs."  We couldn't find "Mater", but we tried.

We did find the Hualapai Lodge in Peach Springs.
Daddy, Mommy & I might come back here for a weekend to go to Grand Canyon West or the Grand Canyon Caverns.

Welcome to "Radiator Springs."

This is what Radiator Springs looked like before Lightning McQueen helped to fix it up.

Mommy & I are trying to blend-in. Is it working?

"If you ever plan to motor west, travel my way, take the highway, that's the best.
Get your kicks on Route 66 . . ."
It really winds around the mountains!

Burma Shave is a brushless shaving cream,  In 1925, the Odell family began advertising the shaving cream along the highways of America.  The signs were supposed to have been taken down in 1963. But traveling along life's highways, you can still occasionally see the rhyming signs.  Also in this area were LOTS of Prairie dogs along the road.  Don't ask me how, but Mommy managed to miss taking a photo of ANY of them.  Daddy's MUCH better with the camera.
We drove past the Petrified Forest.  According to the Park's website, "Petrified wood at Petrified Forest National Park is almost solid quartz, weighing in at 168 pounds per cubic foot."  WOW!!!!  How cool is that?
FINALLY!!!!  We've made it to the State of New Mexico.  I'm getting tired of being in the car.  Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet?
Just as we were driving into Prewitt, NM, we hit a wall of smoke caused by wildfires that lasted almost all the way to Albuquerque (about 98 miles).

Well, we've made it to Albuquerque, NM and I'm exhausted.  Stay tuned for another day of adventure. Tomorrow, we're going to the Fiesta De San Felipe in Old Town.
