1,523 miles - Ohio to Colorado - July 2nd - July 4th

We left Macedonia, OH the morning of July 2nd - heading to Zanesville, OH to see the Coast-to-Coast Trail Riders. Led by Navy veteran, Jef Keegan, the Coast-to-Coast Trail Riders are traveling via horseback on the American Discovery Trail to raise awareness of the Wounded Warrior Project - an organization that assists wounded veterans transition to civilian life.
Joey meets Sgt. Michael Proscia - a Purple Heart recipient and Wounded Warrior Alumni. Michael lives in Phoenix, AZ.

Here is Jef Keegan on the right standing alongside Mike Proscia and "Famous" the horse.

KYOTEE had lunch in Zanesville, OH   -  $3.59‏ per gallon

Germantown, OH is located just west of Dayton, OH. It was established in 1803.  The homes and town buildings are magnificent.  This is one such home built in the early 1800's.

We stopped in Germantown, OH to visit with Mommy's Uncle Charlie Lindsey who recently celebrated his 84th birthday.

As we left Ohio, a beautiful arch crossed the highway . . .

bidding us farewell.

Remember I mentioned that the scenery along the road hadn't changed much since Oklahoma?

So I slept.

Plainfield IN -  $3.68‏ per gallon.

Although trees predominately line the highway, we are starting to see large fields of corn.

Oddly, as we turned on the radio and began listening to the closing arguments in the Casey Anthony trial, we entered the town of Casey, IL (spooky).

We took the perimeter around St. Louis this trip, so we missed the Arch.
However, crossing the bridges, we saw the area is still flooded.

I thought it would be wise if I found some higher ground.

Oak Grove, MO  -  $3.38 per gallon

Missouri has rolling hills and lots of trees.

They even have hay doodles.

Driving into Columbia, MO, the sky became very dark and ominous.

The clouds were funneling down. There was lightning and thunder. Cross winds were blowing heavily across the road, sweeping debris into the path of traffic.

Hail and blinding rain came down. Cars were haphazardly pulling off to the side of the road.
It was really difficult to see the road and cars in front of us. But there was no safe place to pull off.  We were finally able to pull off a couple of miles down the road until the storm passed.

As we rolled through Kansas City, we saw the stadium for the Kansas City Royals' baseball team.

Car sandwich.

Kansas City stretches across two states - Kansas City, MO and Kansas City, KS.

In every state we saw road construction zones.  In very rare cases, we even saw shovel-ready workers.

This is the exit for Manhattan, KS.  Now, I can say that I've seen both the "Big Apple" and the "Little Apple."
We stayed in Salina, KS. Gasoline was only $3.38 per gallon - so KYOTEE has a full belly.

I got a good night's sleep - so I'm up and ready to head to Colorado for July 4th.

103 degrees in Denver, CO and snow-capped Rocky Mountains.

Wow! We got high in the Rocky Mountains!

Can you believe those folks? It's slippery up there.

We're at the Arapahoe Basin.

It's their July 4th "Last Ski of the Season" Celebration.

Now, you do understand that Mommy hates cold weather, right?  She's in a sleeveless top and sandals.

I wanted to do one more ski run, but they closed the slopes, darn.

Next stop - Dillon, CO.
